Politician offers advice on resisting onshore turbines

Campaigners from across Northumberland have met a leading politician to share ideas about how to resist onshore wind turbine applications.

Coun Martin Hill is leader of Lincolnshire County Council which has passed a range of
measures to halt applications for wind turbines, including a ban on new turbines within 2km of a home.

He was taken to see the largest turbine development in the county, near Lynemouth, before attending a meeting with anti-turbine protest groups and Conservative county council candidates.

Coun Glen Sanderson, the deputy leader of Northumberland Conservatives who chaired the meeting, said: “It was tremendously helpful to hear directly from a politician who has led radical action against the encroachment of wind turbines.”

Berwick campaigner Flora Simpson said: “In rural North Northumberland there is a feeling that the county council is not doing enough to support residents with legitimate fears about inappropriate turbine development.

“Sustainable energy should be a priority, but Northumberland already has enough turbines built and planned to meet our renewable energy obligations.

“The council must now take decisive action to limit the number of turbines and protect our landscape.”
