Blown away

Austrian Times | www.austriantimes.at 28.07.12

One million Euros of damage were caused when a massive 160 tonne crane designed for lifting up giant wind farm propellers sank into a waterlogged meadow in Walle in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

The crane was supposed to be helping to build a new generator at a wind park in the area when it toppled to the side and fell.

The crane, which costs 168 million Euros and can lift up to 559 tonnes, was only half-a-year old when the accident occurred.

Oil from the crane also leaked out over the field causing further damage.

Two sister cranes were needed to recover the toppled vehicle.
