Scrutiny Panel supports Cabinet on wind farms

Councillors have voted with a majority verdict to support the Cabinet’s decision to adopt the Supplementary Planning Document regarding wind farms.

At an Executive Scrutiny Panel meeting, held on Tuesday night, members voted eight in favour and one against for the proposals which will limit the building of wind farms up to and above 100m.

It will mean structures of that size will need to be at least 1km away from any residential property.

Councillor Chris Williams, chairman of the panel, said: “The biggest concern was if the SPD guidance conformed to national planning regulations and if we adopted it would we face legal action.

“The verdict of the assistant director of planning was that no such attempt would be successful.”
