Residents oppose Wilpshire windfarm plan

Lancashire Telegraph | www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk 24 July 2012

A ‘No’ campaign against a wind turbines application in Wilpshire has been set up by Ribble Valley residents.

The group has organised a public meeting to discuss the plans for three 46-metre turb-ines at Carr Hall Home and Garden Centre, in Whalley Road, which will be held on Friday, at Langho Community Centre, in Longsight Road.

The campaign has been set up by Barry Boardman, of Snodworth Farm, Langho, who will chair the meeting.

He is urging Ribble Valley residents to go along to the session, which is taking place from 6pm to 8pm, to make their views known.

According to the applic-ation, if the turbines, which would almost be the height of five double-decker buses, are given the go-ahead, some of the energy they produce would be used onsite to offset grid electricity.

The rest would be exported to the National Grid.

Veronica Hargreaves, who is on the ‘No’ campaign committee, said: “The plans are totally unsympathetic to the rural nature of the Ribble Valley, which is the key point we want to get across.

“If one wind farm is appr-oved, then it may open up the floodgates for more.”

The application has been submitted to Ribble Valley Council by Carr Hall Home and Garden Centre manager Andrew Donelan.

Nobody from the centre was available for comment.
