Navitus Bay wind farm fears: turbines ‘could be higher than the Isle of Wight’

Daily Echo | www.bournemouthecho.co.uk 25 July 2012

A Bournemouth University expert found the Poole Bay wind farm turbines, when viewed from Bournemouth, could appear twice the height of the western edge of the Isle of Wight.

Dr Nigel Garland, from the Sustainable Design Research Centre, compared the turbines at maximum possible height to Tennyson Down, which is just behind the Needles lighthouse.

He said the turbines viewed from Bournemouth would appear about one third the height of a thumb held horizontally.

The campaign group Challenge Navitus had also predicted the same apparent height.

The group said the findings “validate” the images and videos it had produced.

Group spokesman David Lloyd told the Echo: “Naturally we are very pleased. Right the way through we have tried to present a factual picture of what is proposed.”

Eneco said it was committed to a public consultation and welcomed debate. It said: “We understand there are concerns and we are doing our best to make sure people understand what they look like.”
