Protest group calls for more public support against wind turbines near Sleaford

Objections have been made against plans to install two industrial wind turbines on the outskirts of Sleaford.

Billingborough and Horbling Against Turbines (BHATS) group has written to South Kesteven District Council opposing the installation of the turbines measuring 36.4m each.

The group is now calling on other residents to write to the council to oppose these plans for the turbines on land adjacent to the South Forty Foot Drain, Horbling Fen.

BHATS are objecting to the application due to what they claim will be the impact of the turbines on the landscape, ecology and noise.

In a letter to the SKDC, BHATS chairman Sarah Ormrod said: “BHATS prime objection to this proposed development is that it will irrevocably despoil a rare landscape whose skyline has remained largely unchanged for over half a millennium.

“It should be noted that the proposed wind turbines would visually be very large structures in the landscape and to put this into context they would be taller than the spire of Billingborough Church and would consequently be rival features in a hitherto unspoilt landscape.

“BHATS draws attention to Natural England’s assessment of the Fens and their recommendation that all that possibly could be done should be done to ‘retain the distinctive large-scale vistas’ of the Fens specifically by prevention of ‘visually intrusive developments.

“BHATS believes that the setting of the medieval churches on both sides of this unspoilt strip of Fenland and the visible interaction of the spires with each other would be severely compromised if these turbines on the south side of the A52 road were to be allowed.”

The application was submitted to SKDC by Peter Harborow. A date for the application to go before the council’s planning committee is yet to be announced.

Anyone wanting to oppose these plans can write to Philip Moore, planning officer (North Team), Development Management, South Kesteven District Council, Council Offices, St Peter’s Hill, Grantham, NG31 6PZ. Alternatively, email
