A rescue operation is underway to get a worker stranded in wind turbine tower to safety after an object fell on his head in Victoria’s Western District.

The man was working on a platform about 50m above ground when the object fell about 20m, striking him on the head this morning.

Luckily, the man was wearing a helmet as he worked on the wind farm turbine in Macarthur, but was knocked unconscious for about five minutes.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said efforts were underway by the SES and CFA to lower him to the ground and get him to a hospital.

The injured man, who has head injuries, has been fitted with a brace and put on a spinal board.

He is expected to be airlifted to The Alfred hospital shortly.
