Where is the proper planning for wind farms?

The Maui News | www.mauinews.com 19 July 2012

The Maui News reported that Hana Ranch may be sold to a wind farm development company (July 11).

As a resident of Hana, I have noticed in my drives to the other side that not only do we have scarification of skeletal windmills on the West Maui Mountains, but we also are getting them in Ulupalakua.

I love the notion of renewable energy, solar and wind power. I also love the beauty of Maui nei.

I cannot imagine ruining the beauty of Hana Ranch with a windmill farm. Is it wise to polka dot the island with windmills? If there must be eyesores, could they not all be in one location, where the existing ones are, for example? Where is proper planning, dare I ask?
