Moor turbines growth concern

Councillors in a Pennine market town have expressed concern about the large number of wind farms that are being developed on surrounding moors.

Members of Penistone Town Council are to have a special discussion on the subject at their next meeting.

Work has started on another wind farm on the moors overlooking Penistone with the tallest turbines so far, which will be 125m high.

Coun Paul Hand-Davis who is also a member of Barnsley Council said: “What concerns me is that these turbines get larger compared to the first wind farm at Royd Moor. The latest ones are as tall as Blackpool Tower.”

Concerns were also voiced by Coun Brenda Hinchliff, who said there were now ‘so many wind turbines it is a matter of serious concern’.
