Plans announced for huge windfarm off Anglesey

Plans to build a giant windfarm off the coast of Anglesey have been unveiled.

Centrica Renewable Energy (CREL) and DONG Energy Power have submitted initial proposals for up to 440 turbines around 9 miles off the coast of Anglesey to the UK government’s National Infrastructure Planning agency.

The Rhiannon Wind Farm would generate up to 2.2 gigawatts of electricity.

The location of the onshore infrastructure, such as the substation and onshore cable route(s), is yet to be determined, although the application states that the connection to the national network will be on Anglesey.

Rhiannon Wind Farm is one of a dozen sites around Britain where offshore windfarms could be built in the next 10 years.

Application for the onshore infrastructure will be made to the Welsh Government and Anglesey Council.
