Passadumkeag Ridge wind farm meeting

GREENBUSH – More than 120 people are voicing their opinions again on the proposed Passadumkeag Ridge Windfarm that would be located in Grand Falls Township.

A public hearing was held tonight in the Helen S. Dunn gymnasium in Greenbush.

State officials wanted to hear feedback on the department of environmental protection’s draft analysis regarding a proposed 14 turbine, 42 megawatt windfarm.

This is the first time the DEP has ever held a second meeting on the same topic.

While some believe there are pros and cons to wind turbines, tonight’s crowd was overwhelmingly against the proposed project.

Commissioner Patricia Aho tells us “Some of the concerns in the past might have been the thought they weren’t able to provide as much input as they might have desired too. So I took that into consideration and said in regards to permitting on wind projects, we will make sure that there is a second input session.”

Some of the concerns people told us they had are that the farm would be an eye-sore and take away from the beauty of the nature.

Others tell us that they do not need any more electricity out there, and that the wind farm is part of a “fad” that will soon die out.

Members of the public have until July 27th to submit any written comments about the project, through the DEP’s website, maine.gov/dep.
