Wind Ordinance Committee

The Bethel Citizen | www.bethelcitizen.com 12 July 2012

Woodstock residents are invited to a public informational and feedback meeting of the town’s Industrial Wind Energy Ordinance Committee at 7 p.m. on July 19 at the Woodstock Elementary School. It is an opportunity for the committee to share highlights of its first draft of the Ordinance and for town residents to give us input and feedback. The committee urges residents to attend.

The goal of the committee is to strike a balance between the desire of the town to allow wind development while protecting the property rights and values of neighboring property owners and the “sense of place” of our rural community. This meeting will focus on issues of noise levels and set-back distances of wind turbines from neighboring property.

By July 12, the Committee will have placed in the Town Office for public review a couple of notebooks containing: our first draft of the Ordinance; a background paper titled “Findings and Rationale,” on noise levels, setback distances, health and property values; and a table illustrating the regulations the state has in place and those that some other Maine towns have written into their ordinances. The notebooks are available to the public to be reviewed in the Town Office.

Much of the draft ordinance is quite technical, so our suggestion, for purposes of this meeting, is that residents read sections I – III and VIII, and refer to the definitions in Section V for explanations of any unfamiliar terminology.

If you’d like to send your input via our Committee e-mail, you can do so at: bpwindcomm@oxfordnetworks.net. And we’d be happy to send you the documents described above as e-mail attachments through that same address. Please send us an e-mail if you’d like us to send you copies.

We hope to see many Woodstock residents at this meeting. We may hold another in late August or early September to receive feedback on any other issues of interest.
