Guam – Over two dozen Mangilao residents voiced their concern over the University of Guam’s plan to install two wind turbines near their homes. According to Phil McCormick, who lives closest to the proposed site at Dean’s Circle, he thought the meeting was more informative and open compared to the first village meeting held in early-June.
He told KUAM News, “We’re very optimistic that the university staff and Dr. [Robert] Underwood listening to our concerns and we felt positive after the meeting that they’ll take our concerns and make adjustments to the project.”
UOG chief planning officer David Okada said, “The next step is UOG has to get together with the leadership to look at the current project included all those relevant issues that the residents had provided and then just make some hard decisions as to where we’re at today.” He says he learned that several of the residents were not against wind turbines, but rather the proposed location and the impact of noise to the neighborhood.
UOG still plans to go before the Guam Land Use Commission on August 9.
