Be warned of chaos to come

South Wales Evening Post | www.thisissouthwales.co.uk 11 July 2012

The trial run of the Wind Turbine transport route has been hailed a success (Evening Post July 6).

Yes – the trial proved that a lorry (unladen) of the same length as the transporter can manage to get through Pontardawe and reach the site with only a few problems

However, those drivers stuck in the traffic jams would hardly be describing this event as a success, and as they have come to me with their concerns I feel that I must speak up for them.

I counted 72 vehicles in just one of the queues – with each traveller having their own reason for being very upset at the delay. One example illustrates this – a young man travelling with his mum was stopped whilst on his way to Neath College for an interview and was, understandably very worried.

Fortunately I was able to show them an alternative route over the mountain, but those people without local knowledge were just stuck!

Despite the assistance of this newspaper in publishing council press releases and articles by myself and the local residents’ association Communities Acting Together there were still people living along the route who were unaware of what was occurring last Wednesday.

It is proposed that 15 convoys of turbine components will travel along this route in the next few months.

I call upon those responsible to make sure that everyone living along the route is informed personally well in advance and that the wider community has as much warning as possible of what to expect.

Last Wednesday was only the beginning.

Be aware.
