Caution needed over turbine applications – Brown

Caution must be observed over the number of wind turbine planning applications approved for Carrickfergus Borough, Councillor Alderman Jim Brown has warned.

“We have had a number of these applications for wind turbines appearing in recent years and I have previously queried just how many of the turbines together constitutes a wind farm; we do not want a wind farm appearing by stealth,” Ald Brown said.

“We need to be clear on just how many turbines are allowed in a certain area and how close together they should be. If people who wish to build a wind farm can get round the process simply by submitting each turbine as a single application then that is a retrograde step.”
