KINGMAN – Like dandelions sprouting up around the county, the planning and zoning commission will discuss Wednesday another wind turbine farm in the White Hills area.

The commission will discuss a change to the Mohave County General Plan and a rezone to energy overlay-wind for a large-scale wind turbine farm east of Highway 93 in White Hills. The 500-megawatt maximum wind energy power generation plant would be installed east of Highway 93 and north of White Hills Road. The land is administered by the Bureau of Land Management.

The commission also will discuss a change to the zoning ordinance to define what learning centers are in commercial zones such as in strip malls. At the June meeting, Planning and Zoning Manager Chris Ballard said the issue came up from a tutoring center in Fort Mohave. A learning center would mean anyplace that provides tutoring and additional education for grades K-12.

Also on the agenda is a permit for a helicopter landing site off Highway 93 in the White Hills area. The commission has already approved several other helicopter landing sites around the Grand Canyon West area.

The planning and zoning commission meeting starts at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the board of supervisors auditorium at the county administration building at 700 W. Beale St. in Kingman.
