Mid West wind farm on hold until demand grows

ABC News | www.abc.net.au 6 July 2012

State-owned power generator Verve says it will only go ahead with a proposed 250 megawatt wind farm in the Mid West when there is sufficient demand for power.

A spokesman for Verve says the project will be put on hold until there is enough demand for what would be the state’s largest wind farm.

The $600 million project would be located at Warradarge, south of Eneabba.

Verve says if there is sufficient demand, the first stage of the project could be completed by 2014.

The Premier Colin Barnett says he supports the wind farm but believes it is unlikely to be built in the near future.

“I do welcome development and expansion of wind farms but I also suspect that this project is not likely to happen in the short term,” he said.
