Public meeting called to discuss wind farm plans

Plans to build a wind farm near the American base at RAF Molesworth have already led to opposition from residents.

RWE Npower Renewables wants to put up six 413ft high turbines on land near Warren Lane, Bythorn, south west of the base and close to the A14.

The scheme, which has just gone before Huntingdonshire District Council, also includes infrastructure, one permanent anemometry mast and a temporary one, a temporary construction compound and a control building.

But the Stop Molesworth Wind Farm Action Group is already urging residents to make objections to Huntingdonshire District Council and local MPs.

A public meeting to discuss the scheme has been called for Bythorn Village Hall on July 12, starting at 7.30pm.

RWE said the number of proposed turbines had been reduced from eight to six following consultations with the community.

It said: “If approved, the proposed Molesworth Wind Farm would help offset many thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide each year and generate enough electricity to meet the average annual needs of the equivalent of between 7,800 and 8,700 homes.

“The local community would also stand to gain significantly from the development with the establishment of a community fund of a minimum £1,000 per megawatt per year for the operational life of the wind farm which could amount to an estimated £375,000.”
