Mast appeal is dismissed

A planning appeal for permission to build a 60-feet metereological mast to the north of Hanwell was dismissed last Thursday.

Regeneco launched the appeal in February after Cherwell District Council rejected the initial application in December. Members of the Shotteswell, Hanwell and Mollington Wind Farm Action Group (SHAMWAG), have expressed their delight.

Jan Burgess, treasurer, said: “We are all absolutely over the moon with the decision and have worked really hard. We have never been against renewable energy, we just want it to be used efficiently and not at the expense of people’s homes in the area.”

The inspectorate dismissed the appeal as it felt the mast could pose a danger to aircraft landing at Shotteswell airfield.

A statement from Regeneco said: “We note with disappointment the inspector’s decision to dismiss the appeal for a met mast at land to the north of Hanwell.

“Whilst pleased the inspector agreed landscape impact and ecology were not reasonable grounds for refusal, Regeneco disagrees with the inspector’s findings regarding aviation.”
