After years of negotiations, the Mohawk community of Kahnawake signed a deal with Kruger Energy.
The energy company plans to build 12 wind turbines in an area Kahnawake claims as its traditional territory.
The company will pay Kahnawake $20,000 a year for 20 years and it will set up an annual scholarship.
Kahnawake’s Grand Chief, however, says the deal highlights the recognition of Kahnawake’s right to the land.
