Public meeting to air turbine worries

A public meeting will be held in Shebbear for residents who feel they are ‘under siege’ from wind turbine applications.

The Torridge Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) group will be meeting on Thursday to discuss the current applications for turbines in the area.

Current applications made to Torridge District Council include a 46m (152ft) turbine at Henscott, a 79m (260ft) turbine at Durpley Farm and a 102m (336ft) turbine at Alscott farm.

Penny Mills, chairman of the Torridge CPRE group, said: “I don’t think people realise the sheer scale of the turbine proposed at Alscott – it will be seen for miles around and have a dramatic impact.

“This is the tallest turbine we are faced with in Torridge. And when you take the other two applications at 46m and 79m high, these are all huge machines which will encircle Shebbear.

“The cumulative effect is a big concern to a lot of people throughout the district and to the CPRE.”

The meeting will be open to the public to discuss the turbine applications from 7.30pm at Shebbear Village Hall.
