Residents gather for Anglesey anti-turbine protest

Protestors gathered to voice their concerns over a proposed wind turbine on an Anglesey farm.

Around 60 people protested outside Marchynys farm, Penmynydd against against plans to erect a 78 metre turbine.

Llinos Edwards of Anglesey Against Wind Turbines (AAWT) said Penymydd was in danger of being the “centre of a huge windfarm.”

She addded: “The Marchynys turbine could be the first of an array of industrial turbines that would be seen for miles around, right across the island and from the North Wales Coast.”

Anglesey Council has received applications for seven turbines at sites dotted along the high ridge that runs from Penmynydd towards Pentraeth.

Sites include Cae Uchaf, Rhos Owen, Ty Fry, Ty’n Buarth, Cae Isaf and Ty Gwyn.
Protestor Paul Butler, of Llangaffo, added: “People don’t realise these turbines are bigger than almost anything else on the island.

“In some cases they are more than twice the size of those in the windfarms near Cemaes, and are even bigger than the chimney at Anglesey Aluminium.”

Penmynydd Community Council will hold a public meeting at the village hall at 7pm tonight (Monday, June 25).
