Wind 1 returns to daytime service in Falmouth

FALMOUTH – Falmouth’s Wind 1 turbine has returned to service after a shutdown period.

The turbine went into service Friday, June 15 and is operating from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. as is the Wind 2 turbine.

The 30-day shutdown, which began May 14, followed nighttime sound monitoring of Wind 1.

“This was following the Town’s being informed that night-time sound monitoring of Wind1, which the Town had requested of the DEP, detected sound levels at one location as being in excess of the DEP 10dB regulatory threshold,” according to a statement from Town manager Julian Suso.

“We have been advised by DEP representatives that during this 30-day testing period there were no observed exceedances of the 10dB threshold during the daytime to date at the several locations tested. While it was further confirmed that the great majority of their testing has been completed, DEP has also indicated that additional sound testing will be required to fully complete their protocol, as one wind direction has yet to be fully tested due to variation in weather conditions,” the statement said.
