Councillors reject Newburgh community windfarm plan

By Dave Lord, The Courier, www.thecourier.co.uk 20 June 2012

Hugely controversial plans for what would have been the first community-owned windfarm in the east of Scotland have today been knocked back by councillors.

Plans for the development on the hillside near Newburgh had divided opinion in the local community.

Elected members on the north east Fife area committee had been urged to reject the plans.

Planning officers had warned the three 100-metre turbines on a hill at Braeside of Lindores Farm would have an adverse impact on the sensitive local landscape – and could impact detrimentally on tourism.

At today’s vote, the plan was rejected.
