Farmers wound up about power lines for Stockyard Hill wind farm

Farmers in south-west Victoria are concerned that overhead power lines for a proposed wind farm could be built on their properties.

Origin Energy has approval to build 157 wind turbines at Stockyard Hill.

The company is speaking to farmers about relinquishing their land for the transmission.

Bradvale farmer Chris Shady says it would compromise his farming and his safety.

“There is compensation, but I don’t know how you could be compensated for a tractor… through the middle of your property,” he said.

“Sowing, spraying, (the power lines) will interfere with my operations.

“At night time work, you’ll have to be aware of them…there’s outside contractors who come in and some of them have very big machinery and I’d be worried for their safety sometimes.”
