Stand up for rural Nova Scotia

Finally, some level of government stands up for the little guy and your paper, in an earlier editorial and in Rachel Brighton’s June 10 column, seems to think Kings County councillors made the wrong decision regarding wind farms. Well, they didn’t.
North and South Mountain residents were loud and clear in not wanting wind turbines 400 feet tall, or higher, within 700 metres of their homes. We thank all the councillors for standing up for our wishes instead of siding with the huge multinational companies that don’t give any thought to the local people. Our provincial government would have dismissed our views and sided with the Spanish multinational (and likely given it taxpayer dollars to boot) in a second.
We are not against wind power. We just feel that these massive turbines should be a reasonable distance from our homes. We should be able to enjoy our property and homes and not see our property values plummet. We don’t live in rural Nova Scotia for better services. We still can’t access high-speed Internet. (Thanks for standing up for us on that issue too, Mr. Dexter.) We have spent the last 20 years or so making a nice quiet little spot for us to live, and hopefully end our days. Please, Kings councillors, don’t take that away from us, and thanks for standing up for rural Nova Scotia.
