Wind farm will deter retirees

Gainsborough Target, www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk 15 June 2012

I retired to the area east of Gainsborough two years ago after working the whole of my career in large cities.

I was attracted to the quiet, healthy and safe way of living and the beautiful country scenery. The village where I live – and other local villages – has a high proportion of the residents falling into a similar category as myself. We spend our pensions and savings in the local economy.

If the controversy surrounding the proposed Brown’s Holt Wind Farm had been here two years ago I would not have settled here. It will probably deter many other retired persons from moving to this area. This will have a severe financial effect on the local businesses and the local economy. If you do not believe this, just ask local tradesmen who are the majority of their customers.

The argument is not just true of individuals. Businesses and companies consist of people – and people like to live and work in nice places.

Will the wind farm make it easier to attract commerce and growth to the area?
