While state regulators continue their review of plans for a $250 million wind farm in St. Croix County, the project received an endorsement at the local level this week.

A $5 million substation for the proposed Highland Wind Farm was endorsed by the town board in Cylon, Emerging Energies of Wisconsin said in a statement.

The project is expected to be considered later this month by the St. Croix County Board of Adjustment.

Emerging Energies is proposing to generate 102.5 megawatts of power from 41 turbines. Its first project in Brown County opened in 2010.

The wind energy developer has been working on the project for several years but faced local opposition. It increased the size of the project last year, triggering the need for state review by the state Public Service Comimssion. The PSC is expected to vote on the project by December.
