Opposition building over wind turbine plans

Hull Daily Mail, www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk 9 June 2012

E RIDING: Opposition is growing to plans for a 112ft wind turbine on land close to a renowned beauty spot.

Bempton Parish Council and Bridlington Town Council have objected to the plans to install the turbine at Hartendale Farm

The turbine would sit just 600 metres from Flamborough village and 250 metres from the cliffs among Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast.

Campaigner and Bempton resident David Hinde said: “The turbine will be highly visually intrusive from Bridlington Bay, Bempton Cliffs, many areas of Flamborough and the heritage features of the ancient Danes Dyke and coastal footpaths.

“Flamborough Heritage Coast is one of the most important tourism areas in England and plans to create a Yorkshire Nature Triangle with an expanded RSPB Centre at Bempton Cliffs and the Living Seas Centre at South Landing will dramatically increase visitor numbers in the future.

“There has been 36 objections received by East Riding Council already.”

Flamborough Parish Council is due to meet on Monday to discuss the plans.
