Three questions about proposed wind towers

Yuma www.yumasun.com 6 June 2012

I agree with Omar Campbell (“More details needed on towers,” May 19) on the proposed power-generating towers near San Luis, Ariz.

First, I do not recall any man-made structure that is even half of the 3,000 feet that is proposed for these towers. Could you imagine what the damage would be if they were toppled by our windstorms?

Which brings me to my second question, as we all know, our wind storms also carry a lot of sand. Are those 1,000 workers going to man brooms after a storm to sweep out the towers?

Third, why are these folks trying to strike a deal with Mexico to pipe in desalinated water when we have a desalting plant right here (that can produce over 70 million gallons of water a day) that is sitting idle?

These and many more questions need to be answered before this project can proceed.

If I was a potential investor, I wouldn’t be pulling out my checkbook yet.
