TOWNSHIP 16 – Construction crews have been busily pouring foundations at the future site of Bull Hill Wind in anticipation of the arrival of wind turbines.

Project Manager Dave Fowler said the turbines are expected to arrive by ship and rail at the Sprague Energy terminal in Searsport at the end of this month.

The turbine components will then be trucked to the Bull Hill site in Township 16, which borders Eastbrook.

The project involves the installation of 19 Vestas 1.8-megawatt wind turbines on the Bull Hill and Heifer Hill ridges. The turbines will stand 476 feet tall to the tip of a fully extended blade.

Once complete, the facility will have a total capacity of 34.2 megawatts.

The developer is Blue Sky East, a subsidiary of First Wind.

According to company officials, the Bull Hill Wind project will create about 200 jobs during construction. Reed & Reed of Woolwich is the contractor for the project.

The turbines will be installed this summer and the project is expected to be operational by the end of the year.

Bull Hill Wind will be First Wind’s fifth project in Maine, following Mars Hill Wind, Rollins Wind, Stetson Wind and Stetson Wind II.
