Anger over proposed wind farms near Wiveliscombe

Campaigners have slammed proposals to build a wind farm near Wiveliscombe, fearing it “will open the floodgates” for future developments.

Energy Descent wants to put up two 34m turbines at Cordings Farm in Langley Marsh, but residents have written to Taunton Deane Council as the consultation period came to an end this week.

Linda Hays, of Clatworthy, said: “This is a preposterous scheme which, if allowed, will open the floodgates to similar applications.”

The council has targeted a planning decision date of June 15 for the application, which would also see temporary widening of site access at the farm.

Linda’s husband, John, said: “Those of us privileged enough to live in this beautiful part of the world have a duty to protect and preserve it for future generations.

“Once a precedent has been set the council will almost certainly receive further applications from those who are really behind this scheme.”

A spokesman from Energy Descent told the County Gazette they were “working very hard to create systems within energy companies which allow local people to benefit directly.”

He said: “We believe that in the light of the alternatives, such as blackouts, global warming and high energy prices, any generation capacity is good for everyone.”
