Council denies windfarm company access to beach

East Coast Target, www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk 23 May 2012

The company behind plans for a major windfarm off the Lincolnshire coast have been refused access to Chapel St Leonards beach.

RWE npower renewables contacted the council to request permission to access the beach, leased by the council, in order to conduct non-intrusive ecological surveys.

The company is carrying out surveys across the area to establish potential cable routes for connection to an existing substation at Bicker Fen.

But councillors at Chapel St Leonards Parish Council objected to the plans.

Cllr Patrick Naughton said: “If they can put turbines out there (to sea) why not put the cables out there? We don’t want any more people coming burying cables.”

Cllr Phil Leivers added: “We don’t want a substation anywhere near Chapel St Leonards, we don’t want cables and we don’t want anything else. Our community would never forgive us.”
