Turbines proposal

Banbury Guardian, www.banburyguardian.co.uk 22 May 2012

Croughton village could soon be home to two 130-metre tall wind turbines after developers received approval for a 61-metre high meteorological mast.

Last month, councillors from South Northamptonshire Council gave permission for the temporary erection of a meteorological mast for up to three years at Gateridge Farm, between Croughton and Hinton-in-the-Hedges.

It was expected the mast would be used to gather data relating to wind speed and strength over the coming 36 months but developer Bolsterstone Wind Power Ltd has now announced its plans to submit a planning application for two wind turbines “later this year”.

A consultation is now under way until May 31 to allow residents to put forward their views on the development prior to the submission of the application.

In a letter to sent to local residents, Arcus, acting as agent for Bolsterstone, said: “Following initial site feasibility studies, it is considered that this site could accommodate two wind turbines and associated infrastructure.

“The turbines will be up to about 130 metres in height to the blade tip and the development will have a maximum output of six megawatts.”

Residents can comment on the proposals by e-mailing project manager John Hetherton on johnh@arcusrenewables.co.uk by May 31.
