Firm finally submits plans for wind park

Folkestone Herald, www.thisiskent.co.uk 17 May 2012

Plans to build a six-turbine, multimillion-pound wind park in Sellindge have finally been lodged with the district council.

Energy firm Ecotricity has submitted its application to Shepway District Council following its open day in the village hall last month.

It wants to build six turbines, each 125m tall, after spending 12 months studying the site’s suitability.

Residents have vowed to launch protests and a petition against the proposal, arguing that the turbines will dent property prices and create a “blot” on the landscape, but Ecotricity remains confident it will be awarded permission.

Spokesman Stuart Brennan said: “After more than two years of detailed site assessment and environmental studies, allied to ongoing dialogue with local residents, we are happy that we have a very strong proposal for a wind park that will successfully harness the local wind resource.”

A decision is expected in the new few months.
