Wind industry must adjust production

15 May 2012 | www.statesmanjournal.com

I was a big fan of wind power. As soon as my power company offered an option to support it, I signed up to pay extra to encourage its use.

Wind power is still great, even if most of the electricity is shipped to California. But my voluntary financial support for wind power ended several months ago after the federal regulators sided with wind power companies against the Bonneville Power Administration.

There is now so much wind power capacity in our region that handling it all can put a big strain on the grid. Sounds like too much of a good thing.

I no longer wish to subsidize the wind industry if they are not willing to shut down and forgo revenue when the system is overloaded.
