NH National Guard to erect wind tower in Stafford

Credit:  AP, www.fosters.com 4 May 2012 ~~

The New Hampshire National Guard is teaming up with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Cold Regions Research and Engineering Lab to erect a wind tower at the guard’s Regional Training Institute in Center Stafford.

The tower will be part of a year-long study to determine the feasibility of installing a power-generating turbine at the location.

The initial phase of the test involves erecting a 110-foot-tower that will be equipped with different instruments to measure atmospheric conditions

such as wind speed, temperature, and icing conditions.

The test tower will be in place for a year.

Major Steven Hall says the project is one of many the New Hampshire National Guard is taking toward its goal of having the building produce as much energy as it uses.
