Appeal lodged for controversial wind farm on edge of national park

An appeal has been lodged with the Scottish Government over contentious plans for a Highland wind farm.

The proposal for 31 turbines on the edge of the Cairngorms has attracted fierce opposition from environmental campaigners.

The plans, from RWE Npower Renewables Limited, were rejected by Highland Council in January.

Councillors travelled on the country’s highest railway line at the Cairngorms to assess the visual impact of the turbines on the nearby mountains.

They voted that the wind farm was too close to the Cairngorms National Park and would be of a “significant determinent” to the Monadhliath Mountains at Kincraig.

An appeal against that decision has now been lodged with Scottish Ministers.

The case has been allocated to a government reporter who will investigate the proposal before coming to a decision.
