Wind turbine falls from truck; Pueblo Blvd. traffic slows

By Nick Bonham, The Pueblo Chieftain, www.chieftain.com 1 May 2012

Traffic on Pueblo Boulevard has been reduced to three lanes after a trailer hauling a large section of a wind turbine malfunctioned this morning.

No one was injured in the incident near Driftwood Lane, but Pueblo Police Department Capt. Tom Rummel said cranes will be needed to help remove the section of turbine, which is used at Vestas Wind Power Plant.

The trailer hauling the oversized load somehow malfunctioned, Rummel said, and the section of tower rolled off the trailer onto the sidewalk.

“The boulevard is still open. We’ve got two lanes southbound and one lane northbound, but it’s going to have to be shut down because cranes are going to have to lift it up and get it out of here,” Rummel said.
