SHELBURNE – The issue of wind power drew what town officials say was an unprecedented number of people to Town Meeting Tuesday to cast their votes against a proposed wind turbine project.

With several hundred residents in attendance, a majority cast their votes against the project, which sought to install several wind turbines on a hill overlooking Route 2.

The issue drew so much debate that the meeting lasted until 12:40 a.m. and had to be continued to Thursday to address other matters on the town warrant, said Joseph J. Judd, the chairman of the Board of Selectmen.

Town Meeting members also voted to impose a one-year moratorium on wind turbine projects while the town’s Planning Department studies the impact of such projects.
