Ballymac windfarm planning refusal welcomed

South Tipperary Independent TD Mattie McGrath has welcomed last week’s announcement from an Bord Pleanála to refuse permission for the development of a wind farm in the Ballymacarbry area.

The Board believed that the proposed development would have adverse effects on the environment. The development would, therefore, be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area

“I believe that this is the correct decision as this proposed wind farm would be unsuitable to the area. This is a rural area and it would have serious consequences on the local environment and thus on the tourism sector for the wider community,” said Deputy McGrath.

An Bord Pleanála’s decision was based on many inadequacies in the application in relation to visual and environmental affects to the local habitat and in turn its impact on local tourism.

“The developers were not interested in dealing with the local community and their concerns regarding this farm. It would have disrupted their homes and businesses. I welcome this decision in a fight to protect the rural community,” said Deputy McGrath

He congratulated the people of West County Waterford for taking the stance against these developers in order to protect their local area.
