Windmills don’t generate much energy

The Desert Sun had a special report on March 11 about Competitive Power Ventures Sentinel power plant bringing $53 million worth of pollution to the desert. This pollution is supposed to offset the pollution from a flag factory that was closed in Riverside in 1992.

This peaker plant is supposed to supply quick power at times of high demand in addition to supposed wind and solar supplies. Oh surprise! Southern California Edison has a 10-year contract with CPV and we all know what Edison charges for peak power.

Author Matt Ridley of the Global Warming Policy Foundation claims to the nearest whole number, the percentage of the world’s energy that comes from wind turbines is: zero. Despite regressive subsidies; despoiling views; killing bats and eagles; clogging motorways and polluting lakes in Inner Mongolia with the toxic and radioactive tailings from refining neodymium, a ton of which is in the average turbine; despite all this, the total energy generated each day by wind has yet to reach half a percent worldwide.

If wind power was going to work, it would have done so by now.

Wind, solar and this plant are a royal boondoggle. We’ve been had!
