Fresh wind turbine proposals for Brightenber Hill

Craven Herald & Pioneer, www.cravenherald.co.uk 26 April 2012

Fresh plans to site wind turbines at Brightenber Hill, West Marton, have been submitted to Craven District Council.

Energiekontor UK, which yesterday held an exhibition of the plans at West Marton Village Hall, wants to build three 100 metre (328ft) high turbines on land owned by dairy farmer Robert Metcalfe, of Stainton Hall.

The plans also include an electricity substation, alterations to the access to the field, where the turbines would be sited, construction of new access tracks and widening of the road next to the site.

The application follows a previous proposal for five turbines on the same site, which was refused permission by Craven District Council and dismissed at appeal in 2010.

In his judgement, the inspector said that the development would have an unacceptable impact on the residents of Ash Tree Farm, the closest property to the site.

Justin Reid, project manager for Energiekontor, said to address the concerns of the inspector, the two turbines closest to the farm had been removed from the proposals.

“We have kept the three remaining turbines in their original positions.

“The proposal is therefore a smaller scale version of what was previously considered and assessed by the planning process and we are confident that we are now submitting a planning compliant project.”

The FoCL has also submitted a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority about claims made in the company’s publicity material on the scheme.
