Wind power survey

The Press and Journal, 25 April 2012

YouGov’s Scottish Renewable’s wind power survey floored me (the Press and Journal, April 23). It tells us only that two-thirds of some undefined population subset were asked a trick question.

To ask about wind power without apparently specifying onshore, offshore turbines or both, then coming up with the assertion that 72% support wind power, could be intended to mislead us into thinking that the majority want onshore installations.

We also need to know how many were asked for their opinion and in what locations. Were they selected by age, gender, fashionable appearance, UK accent, city or country dwelling? Were they in the wind business? Perhaps they were all the industry’s employees – 100 selected, 72 from the installation divisions, 28 from the ordering back offices on notice because of the overseas parts suppliers’ cutbacks.
