Duke hits wind turbine woe

London Evening Standard, www.thisislondon.co.uk 24 April 2012

A blow for the Duke of Gloucester. He faces a legal challenge to his plans for a wind farm next to Lyveden New Bield, a National Trust property in Northamptonshire. It will be especially embarrassing for the Duke, as among those opposing him in court will be English Heritage, whose deputy chairman he once was. The Duke won planning permission for four wind turbines in spite of objections from English Heritage, the National Trust and East Northamptonshire Council.

Simon Thurley, chief executive of English Heritage, says: “This decision is highly unusual and must not be allowed to become the benchmark for future wind-energy developments.”
