Wind turbine plan for RSPB

By Ellen Frampton, www.biggleswadetoday.co.uk 19 April 2012

A wildlife charity hopes to construct a wind turbine at its national headquarters in Chronicle country.

Today (Friday) the RSPB has unveiled plans to build the 100m high turbine at The Lodge reserve in Sandy.

It could produce more than two thirds of the RSPB’s UK electricity needs.

A planning application to erect a meteorological mast has been lodged with Central Beds Council. This will be the first step to determining whether the site is suitable for a wind turbine.

The chosen location is on the north east side of the reserve behind the gatehouse and near to Potton Road in a field called Sandy Ridge.

There will be drop in sessions for the public on Thursday (April 26) from 2pm to 8pm in the RSPB housing meeting room in The Lodge and on Friday, April 27 from 2pm to 8pm in Sandy Village Hall.
