The Land Use Regulation Commission says “No” to wind turbines on Bowers Mountain.
The Commission issued its first ever denial of a wind energy development permit Friday afternoon.
The vote was unanimous.
The plan would have paved the way for First Wind to place 27 wind turbines on top of Bowers Mountain, which straddles Penobscot and Washington counties just north of Springfield.
Commissioners evaluated the scenic impact of the project and determined on that basis alone that the project should be denied.
Those opposed to the project say this ruling has been a long time coming.
First Wind does have the option to make changes to the permit and resubmit it…the company plans on doing that.
