Plymouth: ZBA approves Hedges Pond Road wind turbine

About eighty residents of the Hedges Pond Road area crowded the meeting room at Plymouth Town Hall Wednesday night. Most of them were disappointed in the ZBA’s to approve Associated Wind Developers’ petition to put a wind-turbine in their neighborhood.

It was a hearing that lasted over three hours and many times the Board raised questions about the town’s bylaw. Chairman Peter Conner:

“This is a difficult decision for us because they’re our neighbors and we know how they feel in many cases, but we have to work with what’s there now. There are some things that maybe should be suggested to the Planning Board that we might want to change in that by-law in the future.”

Many people spoke to the Board, but less than a handful were in favor of the turbine, one of them is Bob Stott:

“I am not a resident of the area in which that wind turbine is going, however, I would have one in my backyard if I could.”

Patrick Griffin reflected the concerns of many of his Hedges Pond neighbors:

“The biggest flaw in their presentation is they have not met the state standard fornoise and we intend to prove that over time.”

The vote was 4 to 1 with Ed Conroy voting in opposition.
