Wind turbine to require ten more weeks of repairs

By Kasey Hariman, Charlestown Patch, charlestown.patch.com 16 April 2012

The latest from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is that the new heavy equipment to shore up the turbine has arrived, but will take time to install.

According to a press release from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority:

In the next week or two, New England Foundation Co. will begin to install a concrete ring and new piles around the existing foundation. Once the heavy equipment arrives on site, the turbine will not be running. This work is expected take about 10 weeks to complete.

The work to reinforce the foundation has begun and the contractor, Lumus Construction, has mobilized on the site.

Previously, on March 14th, Charlestown Patch reported that Massachusetts Water Resources Authority Spokeswoman Rita Convery said, after the windmill was initially secured with bolts, “Engineers working on the project are also developing a plan to give the windmill extra support around the perimeter, but those plans have yet to be finalized.” This appears to be those plans.
