Calls for public meeting to tell ‘full’ turbine story

Morpeth Herald, www.morpethherald.co.uk 13 April 2012

A public meeting could be held to discuss a controversial windfarm scheme.

Chairman Coun Scott Dickinson has made a request to County Hall for a meeting so that residents can hear the ‘full story’ about Peel Energy’s bid for 13 turbines between Hadston and Widdrington.

The company has said that the turbines are the first phase of the wider Blue Sky Forest (BSF) project, led by the Widdrington Regeneration Partnership (WRP) for leisure and tourism facilities, and Peel adds that the turbines ‘will play an important role in stimulating the wider BSF development proposals’.

However, objectors have questioned this and Coun Dickinson claims residents have been misled.

“I don’t feel that residents are being told the full story so I have asked for a public meeting,” said Coun Dickinson.

His comments follow the return of feedback forms which were distributed to residents within the East Chevington parish.

Almost 100 were returned, with the majority of people against the windfarm.

Coun Glen Sanderson, ward member for Chevington with Longhorsley, said that he has ‘always’ been against the turbines and the amount of objection to the scheme would make it more difficult for approval to be granted by the county council.
